1) When e where was born Grucci Fireworks factory?

The first USA factory was established in Elmont, New York in 1880 by my 2nd great grandfather, Angelo Lanzetta.

2) Who was the first owner?

Angelo Lanzetta, my 2nd great grandfather. He was born in Bari, Italy and immigrated to the USA in 1880 with his son, Anthony Lanzetta.

3) Nowadays who’s the owner?

I am the current owner of the company. I am the 5th generation member of the family following in my father and grandfather’s footsteps. My children, cousins and nephew are a part of the 6th generation.

4) How many people work with you?

We have 165 Pyrotechnicians in our factories working full time.We have 30 in our Design Studio and Administrative offices in New York. We have over 300 Pyrotechnicians that work for us part time to produce our displays.

5) How many factories have you got?

2 factories; 1 in Virginia and 1 I Upstate New York. We have many more explosives storage locations around the World.

6) Which was the first important job?

A milestone event for our family was the winning of the Monte Carlo Fireworks Competition. It was the first time our family traveled outside the country. We competed against Spain, Italy, Denmark, and France. We were awarded 1st Place.

7) How many different kinds of shells you use for yours shows?

We currently have over 3,000 different varieties of effects in our inventory. Effects range from small fountains to large 300 mm.

8) What do you think about the cylindric Italian shells?

We still use cylindrical shells in our shows. Currently we manufacture cylindrical shells; 75mm – 200 mm. We enjoy them very much as they offer a great variety of effect opportunities.

9) Have you a dream that you wish to realize in the future?

To manufacture and display the world’s largest shell. My father did this in 1979 with the manufacturing of a cylindrical 42” shell called “Fat Man II”. Since then the record has been broken. I would like to accomplish this great manufacturing feat. Another dream is to see our family continue the tradition into the 6th generation and beyond. Lastly, I would like to realize the ability to develop a smokeless fireworks show to be attentive to the environment.

10) You are one of the most important Fireworks Factory in the World, in your opinion why?

We are one of the leaders in our industry in both manufacturing ingenuity and display. I believe this is so because we place great efforts towards the quality and safety of our products and services. This is all credited to the unity of our family and team.

11) Which are your favorite shells?

Gold Flitter Split Comet (Crosette). This is a shell my father made with great pride and it remains one of my favorite shells.

12) Do you like Malta’s fireworks?

I LOVE MALTESE FIREWORKS!! It is easy to fall in love with the precision and creativity of each shell. The only disappointing factor is that I am unable to purchase them for use in the USA or around the World.

13) What do you think about the Chinese and Japanese fireworks?

Japanese fireworks are very beautiful especially in the larger calibers. Unfortunately due to shipping restrictions in carrying 1.1 explosives and the exchange rate of the Yen/Dollar, it is impossible to continue to support the Japanese manufacturing market. Regarding the Chinese, the product has improved in quality over the past 10 years and the effects continue to be interesting and new. The Chinese factories are having difficulty in maintaining a quality workforce and this may affect the quality of products in the future.

I say to all Pirovagando fans how much I enjoy and respect the Maltese Fireworks artists and craftsmen. I urge you to continue in the art and advancement of technology and safety so our worldwide industry may continue to grow and prosper.

3) Attualmente chi è il proprietario?

Sono il l’attuale capo dell’azienda, da cinque generazioni i membri della famiglia seguono le orme di mio padre e di mio nonno. I miei figli, i cugini e i miei nipoti fanno parte della sesta generazione.

4) Quante persone lavorano con te?

Abbiamo 165 pirotecnici nelle nostre fabbriche che lavorano a tempo pieno. Abbiamo 30 dipendenti nei nostri studi di design e negli uffici amministrativi di New York. Abbiamo oltre 300 pirotecnici che lavorano per noi part time per realizzare i nostri spettacoli.

5) Quante fabbriche possiedi?

Due fabbriche, una in Virginia e una a New York. Abbiamo molti depositi di artifici dislocati nel mondo.

6) Qual è stato il Vostro primo lavoro importante?

La pietra miliare per la nostra famiglia è stata la vittoria del Festival Pirotecnico di Montecarlo. E’ stata la prima volta che la nostra famiglia è andata in un’altra Nazione. Abbiamo concorso anche in Spagna, Italia, Danimarca e Francia. Ci siamo classificati al primo posto.

7) Quante tipologie di artifici utilizzate nei vostri spettacoli?

Noi attualmente abbiamo oltre 3000 differenti varietà di effetti nel nostro inventario. Gli effetti vanno dalle piccole fontane alle sfere di 300 mm di diametro.

8) Cosa pensi degli artifici cilindrici italiani?

Noi usiamo tuttora artifici cilindrici nei nostri spettacoli. Attualmente produciamo bombe cilindriche da 75mm a 200mm di diametro. Ci piacciono molto perché offrono una grande varietà di effetti.

9) Hai un sogno che desideri realizzare in futuro?

Costruire e sparare il più grande artificio al mondo. Mio padre lo fece nel 1979 confezionando una bomba cilindrica di 42” chiamata “FatMan II.” Da allora il record non è stato infranto. Mi piacerebbe realizzare questa grande impresa nella costruzione. Un altro sogno è vedere la nostra famiglia continuare la tradizione con la sesta generazione e le successive. Per ultimo, mi piacerebbe realizzare fuochi artificiali privi di fumo con attenzione verso l’ambiente.

10) La vostra è una delle più importanti aziende pirotecniche al mondo, perché?

Noi siamo una delle industrie leader sia nel confezionamento degli artifici e nell’inventiva degli spettacoli. Io credo questo anche perché facciamo grandi sforzi verso la qualità a la sicurezza dei nostri prodotti e dei nostri servizi. Questo va accreditato all’unità della nostra famiglia e squadra.

11) Qual è il tuo artificio favorito?

La bomba crocette, questo bomba è stata fatta da mio padre con molto orgoglio e rimane una delle mie preferite.

12) Ti piacciono i fuochi d’artificio maltesi?

IO AMO I FUOCHI ARTIFICIALI MALTESI!! E’ facile innamorsi grazie alla precisione e alla creatività in ogni artificio. L’unico fattore deludente è che non è ammesso il loro acquisto negli USA o per il Mondo.

13) Cosa pensi dei fuochi artificiali Cinesi e Giapponesi?

Le sfere giapponesi sono bellissime soprattutto per quanto riguarda i grossi calibri. Sfortunamente le restrizioni legate al trasporto della merce (esplosivi 1.1) e il cambio Yen/Dollaro rendono impossibile a continuare di comprare i prodotti artigianali giapponesi. Riguardo i cinesi, i prodotti hanno migliorato la loro qualità rispetto a dieci anni fa continano a essere interessanti e innovativi. Le fabbriche cinesi stanno avendo difficoltà a mantenere una manodopera di qualità e questo può influenzare la qualità dei prodotti in futuro.
